How not to get your book reviewed

Like Lee Goldberg, I woke this morning to a pair of ill-tempered emails from Bruce Bortz, the publisher of Bancroft Press. In my case, he threatened me with legal action if I didn't retract a statement I made in the comments section of Lee's blog implying that Bancroft is a vanity press.

I have since been persuaded that Bancroft is not a vanity press in the traditional sense. Therefore, I freely retract my comment.

However, as Lee and others have uncovered, whatever I might think about Bancroft should be the least of Bortz's concerns. An article from the Baltimore City Paper on some of Bancroft's troubles is particularly interesting in this regard.

Needless to say, since Bruce believes I "shouldn't have much to do with using the English language" I won't be bothering to review any of his books in the future. In the meantime, I hope he'll remove the lengthy excerpt from one of Mystery Ink's reviews from his website.
