Price of Silence by Chamilla Trinchieri, The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen, or Chicago Blues edited by Libby Fischer Hellmann. I'm in the middle of From May to December by Pat Macenulty; so far so good, but it's too soon to tell for sure.

Don't tempt me.

I'd forgotten about the anthology... They're so hard to review. What can you say about a book of 20 stories (or whatever) in 160 words?

Naomi

How about J.T. Ellison's debut ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS? There's also a debut cozy, Kathryn Lilley's DYING TO BE THIN. I can't wait to read PERSON OF INTEREST by Theresa Schwegel, but that's a late November release.

KILL TIME, by the terrific T.J. MacGregor. See my review of it at the blog.

Chelsea Cain's HEARTSICK has a lot going on, much more than I expected. Zoe Sharp's SECOND SHOT pretty much kicks ass. and I think the US edition of Reggie Nadelson's FRESH KILLS is out about now (though I didn't see a copy of it...)

THE LIKENESS by Tana French, follow up to her phenomenally successful, and I gather excellent, IN THE WOODS.
I do not know about US publcation dates.

Try reading Deanna Raybourn's Silent in the Grave. It is a very good book. It is her first novel.

Clea Simon

"Later, at the bar" isn't crime fiction, but it's great fiction - linked short stories set in a bar in Alaska, by Rebecca Barry. Also, Patry Francis's "The Liar's Diary," though that may be too old at this point...

DIE WITH ME by Elena Forbes, just published over here by Quercus (a brilliant crime fiction publisher), is another book getting lots of good reviews on the crime fic blogs, eg:

LAST RITUALS by Yrsa Sigurdardottir: When a German student studying in Iceland is killed, his family hires single mother and lawyer Thóra Gudmundsdottir and ex-cop Matthew Reich to investigate. Matthew and Thóra learn that the student was on a quest for the original copy of “Malleus Maleficarum” (The Witch Hammer), a manual to help in the detection, prosecution, and elimination of witches. LAST RITUALS is a darkly atmospheric novel of suspense “featuring two fleshed-out, involving lead characters and unusual witchcraft details” (Library Journal) that travels from modern Reykjavik with its hip nightclubs and luxurious hotels to the far northwest coast, infamous in Icelandic history for its witch-hunts during the dark ages.

I read RESTITUTION by Lee Vance recently and felt that it was a very strong debut. Reminded me of Harlan Coben.

Jessica

You can't go wrong with the Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. Less a mystery than a funny quirky novel, but some mystery elements thrown in.
