Book of the Week: Kent Harrington's "The Good Physician"

Kent Harrington is one of the undiscovered talents of the crime genre, a gifted writer who has produced half a dozen excellent novels, most recently the superb Red Jungle. Now he's published an up-to-the-moment literary thriller with a plot featuring the War on Terror as seen through the eyes of a jaded young American doctor working for the CIA. The Good Physician doesn't move with the pacing of the typical thriller, but by reading more closely, we're able to enjoy the beauty of the language and the nuanced twists of the characters. The Good Physician avoids easy observations or answers, causing the reader to think while being entertained. Harrington's work is worth seeking out.

This book looks interesting, and after reading the summary on Amazon I moved my mouse to the "Buy" button.

I stopped short of clicking when I saw the price--$35.00.

Yeah, unfortunately these limited edition books cost a bundle. I'd really like to see Harrington's books get reissued in mass market -- maybe a publisher out there is paying attention?

Harrington's Dark Ride blew me away. I was given a ratty old paperback copy of it and didn't think much about it. Once you read the first page you are floored. It's like if Body Heat was written by a child murdering meth addict.

First edition books are collector's items and are definitely great to own. While first editions of some books can be exorbitantly costly and out of reach for common people, hyper modern first edition books are often available at reasonable price. If you are lucky, these modern first edition books can even be signed by authors which make them even more valuable.
