Sean Doolittle writes:
A little more than ten years elapsed between the first short story I sold to a paying market and the publication of my first novel, Dirt. In that time I published a few more short stories, wrote two unpublished novels, landed an agent, lost an agent, wrote Dirt, and started a family.
I'm not sure how you define success or if I'd even want to...but every writer has one thing in common. Everybody starts out unpublished. And every time I sign a copy of one of my books for somebody who has gone out of their way to ask, at least for the brief moment it takes to scribble my name, I let myself feel like a bigshot.
Then it's back to reality, Hemingway...
Sean Doolittle grew up in southeastern Nebraska. He wrote a novel called Dirt, and another one called Burn. His latest book (Rain Dogs) actually has multiple words in the title and will be released in January 2006. He lives in Omaha with his wife and kids.
